The reason you've been stopped on this page is because Windows XP SP2
doesn't allow the redirection of a page without direct user input. I wanted
to detect if you were using Internet Explorer, which you are and then I wanted
to direct you to the Welcome Page, but it won't let me. So rather than you
being stopped on a page where all you can do is close the browser, i.e. the
page that displays to those users who are not using Internet Explorer, instead,
I wanted to let you know about the problems you may encounter before you
encounter them.
I started the creation of this site long before Service Pack 2 was available,
in fact before even Windows XP was released and now, the enhanced security
features built into Windows XP SP2 stops any scripts from running that are
not the result of direct user input.
For example: When viewing the pictures on this site, you click on a thumbnail
and my script first collects the link information and builds a web page with
the picture embedded into it. If the picture is not available, I've also
built in a feature for letting me know that it's missing.
All this information is created before I open the window to display the
picture. The result in Windows XP SP2 is that the window may be stopped from
opening and you are alerted by the Information Bar that it has been blocked.
When you click on the options for this you can allow this blocked code to
run and you get to see the picture.
The JavaScripts I use on this site enable dynamic features to work, like
product searching and site navigation. Some of these scripts also constantly
monitor the state of my site to make sure you get the best browsing experience
possible and can alert me to a problem if one occurs.
So the bottom line is this:
Viewing this site using Windows XP SP2 does still work, but - and it's
a big BUT: You may be constantly asked if you want to run blocked code. I
DO NOT use ActiveX controls because in earlier versions of Internet Explorer,
this would need for you to allow or disallow ActiveX content to run and I
didn't want to have a site that needed your constant input. However, with
Service Pack 2, it seems I am left with no choice.
So if you was going to look at this site but am as frustrated as I am for
making you read this, then please accept my apologies now and close this
browser. If, however, you are willing to put up with the possible added security
alerts and code blocking that requires your input, then you can enter by
clicking the button below. If you are unsure or don't want to risk it, then
try viewing this site using a computer that is not SP2 enabled, it works
brilliantly!
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Regards,
Gary Fooks
